Chalk and Charcoal Winter Scenes - Let the chalk talk!!

We used chalk and charcoal to recreate some winter scenes, inspired by winter photographs and paintings.

We looked at how to make some things appear far away and closer to us by changing size and tone.

These are some of our final pieces. We really enjoyed smudging and drawing with our fingers to create the effects.

If you go into the woods today..

You will no doubt stumble across some Henry Moore inspired sculptures, hidden amongst the trees and bushes. Made from clay, layered with black paint and finished with a bronze scuffed layer, the statues certainly look right at home.

The sculptures all reflect the theme of relationships between a mother and her child.

Taking The Biscuit....

We will be making biscuits in DT next week. Before we make the biscuits we researched the different tastes in our class and then we all used Excel to show our findings in a table and represent our research data as a graph.

Mr. Rhys Jones likes chocolate digestives. In fact he likes any type of biscuit.....

We have been looking at parts and equivalent fractions so far this week.

WWII Day

Last week, Year 4 turned back the clock and had a great day investigating life during WWII.

Ration Cake

Year 4 had first hand experience of how people had to make do with food that was rationed during the Second World War and the following years. We followed a recipe to make a coffee cake, using rationed ingredients. We used cinnamon instead of coffee. Hopefully some of you were lucky enough to taste the results.

Which is the best material for keeping my drink cool?

We have been investigating which material is better at insulating.

We used ice cubes and a variety of different materials.

We measured the amount of melt water with our control ice cube.

Our results were very interesting.

I may have to re-think how I wrap up my sandwiches. 

Dad, can you help me find the lowest common denominator in this problem please ?

Exciting times this week - We have been furiously achieving credits for the Middle East Maths Challenge.
